"Music is the shorthand of emotion."

Let's introduce ourselves....

PETER VERHART is a project engineer in maritime yacht building and a freelance professional furniture maker. It's therefore no surprise that he loves beautiful woods, which is reflected in the guitars he plays.

Peter has been playing and singing for a long time and has played in several pop bands. He has also written several of his own songs. After a period of playing less, he was rekindled when he attended music sessions at the Oude Remise in Bad Nieuweschans. At the time, he also had his furniture workshop in the same building. There, he met Jan Johannes on the open stage, and they quickly connected musically and personally, ultimately resulting in the formation of FLATLANDISH. Before that, he briefly played with Lieke and Franca.

Peter does a large part of the vocals, both as a soloist and as a second voice, and plays guitar in various tunings (EADGBE, dropped D, and open D). Finally, he's responsible for sound quality and plays the RCF L-PAD 16 CX USB Channel mixer. Peter uses an HK Polar 12 and a Roland AC-90 acoustic guitar amplifier, a DPA 4099 instrument microphone, a Sennheiser e835 vocal microphone, and a dBTechnologies Flexsys FMX10 monitor.

JAN JOHANNES DOFF (JJ) is a clinical pathologist by profession and works at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). He is also obsessed with beautiful woods, especially those used in guitars.

JJ made his musical mark primarily in Irish/Scottish folk music and played in the bands Carritwen and Jami's Fancy. In these bands, he played guitar, bouzouki, bass and tin whistles, and sang vocals. He also played regularly on sessions, including those at Fiddler's Green in Schildwolde and the session in Bad Nieuweschans where he met Peter. Later, they played, along with many musical friends, at Peter and Lenie's Muziekcafé in Steendam. When he lost some interest in Irish/Scottish music, the time was ripe to start something new, and FLATLANDISH was born with a debut performance at 'GASTVRIJ LAGELAND', along with a good friend of both, Willem Noordstrand.

In FLATLANDISH, JJ is one of the vocalists and plays guitar (EADGBE, DADGAD, dropped D), low whistle (Colin Goldie), and a Korg workstation. Like Peter, he has an HK Polar 12 and Roland AC-90 acoustic guitar amplifier, a DPA 4099 instrument microphone, a Sennheiser e835 vocal microphone, and a dBTechnologies Flexsys FMX10 monitor.
